The New Mutants, film diretto da Josh Boone, è un cinecomic a tinte horror legato alla saga degli X-Men e si svolge tra le mura opprimenti dell'ospedale dove cinque mutanti adolescenti, provenienti da diverse parti del mondo, sono trattenuti contro la loro volontà. I giovani protagonisti uniscono le forze per sfuggire al passato e salvare se stessi dalle fatali controindicazioni delle abilità di cui sono dotati. La scozzese Rahne Sinclair alias Wolfsbane (Maisie Williams) può trasformarsi ad esempio in lupo feroce, mentre la sorellina di Colosso, Illyana Rasputin in arte Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy) riesce a teletrasportarsi manipolando potenti dischi magici. Il timido Sam Guthrie del Kentucky detto Cannonball (Charlie Heaton) crea campi di energia che gli permettono di volare, quando il campione brasiliano Roberto da Costa conosciuto come Sunspot (Henry Zaga) è in grado di manipolare l'energia solare. A completare la cinquina di Nuovi Mutanti, Danielle Moonstar soprannominata Mirage (Blu Hunt), ragazza appartenente alla tribù indiana dei Cheyenne, capace di generare realistiche illusioni a partire dalle paure e i desideri di chi le sta di fronte. Su di loro veglia Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga), una dottoressa con una dote alquanto particolare...
